264. They shall, if there, be no school house in the district,
make the necessary arrangements for erecting one and procuring
the necessary furniture for the same.
265. They may expend, in building and furnishing said school
house, one-half of that portion of the school fund of the county
which said district may be entitled to for one year, and they may
levy on the taxable property of the district for any balance that
may be necessary for completing said school house.
266. They shall, in selecting a site for a school house, locate it,
so far as practicable, to suit the convenience of all the inhabitants
of a district.
267. They shall assemble annually, and oftener in case of a
vacancy, and elect one Or more teachers for the school or schools
within their respective districts; bat no teacher shall be eligible
unless he or she shall furnish a certificate from the board of
examiners agreeably to the provisions of this article; and if a
teacher has been previously employed in any district, he shall,
before he shall be re-eligible, obtain a renewal of said certificate
as hereinbefore provided; and if any board of trustees should at
any time elect or keep in their schools any teacher who has not
obtained a certificate of qualification or the renewal thereof the
board of school commissioners shall withhold their signatures
from any order for the payment of such teacher, or the pay-
ment of any other expense connected with said school or schools,
until the provisions of this article in that respect are complied
with.
268. They shall superintend "the school or schools in their
respective districts, and make rules and regulations for the" good
government thereof.
269. They shall give all orders on the board of school commis-
sioners of Washington county for the payment of teachers and
other expenses connected with their schools.
270. They shall see that the books and stationery be not wasted
or destroyed.
271. They may suspend or dismiss a teacher for immoral con-
duct, or for any other cause, when, in their judgment, the interests
of the school may require it.
