257. The one-half of the aggregate amount raised by taxation
in addition to the State appropriation and other sources of reve-
nue, shall be annually appropriated equally amongst the schools
in the several districts in said county, and the other half of said
fund shall be divided among the districts in proportion to the
number of children each district may contain, between the ages
of five and seventeen.

258. The draft of the president of the board of school commis-
sioners shall be sufficient authority for the treasurer to pay any
money in his hands not otherwise appropriated.

259. If any person shall at any time make a donation of land,
or houses and land, suitable for the public schools, the board of
school commissioners shall require deeds of the same to be taken
in the name of Washington county, for the use of the public
schools.

260. The school commissioners shall, on the first Monday in
May in each year, report to the county commissioners a statement
of the transactions of the board, with an account of its receipts
and expenditures during the past year, with an estimate of the
expense for the ensuing year.

261. The county commissioners shall annually have pub-
lished in pamphlet form, not less than five hundred copies of
the annual report of the board of school commissioners, and
distribute fifty copies thereof in each election district in said
county.

262. The legal voters of each school district shall assemble
annually at the school house of the district, on such day as to
them may seem most convenient, and elect from among the in-
habitants of said district three discreet persons, who shall con-
stitute a board of trustees for said school, and shall serve for one
year from the date of their election, or until their successors are
elected.

263. The trustees shall, immediately after their election, ascer-
tain and report to the president of the board of school commis-
sioners, the number of white children in their respective districts
between the ages of five and seventeen years.
