918 WASHINGTON COUNTY. [ART. 21.

226. The said corporation shall not issue any note, certificate
or other device to be circulated as money.

ORPHANS' COURT.

227. The per diem of each judge of the Orphan's Court for said
county, shall be two dollars.

. REGISTER OF WILLS.

228. The county commissioners of said county shall not pass
or order the payment of any account for fuel, paper or stationery
for the register of wills for said county.

ROADS.

229. No road shall be constructed in Washington county, so as
to pass between any dwelling house and spring, well or reservoir
of water used and necessary for family purposes, without per-
mission of the owner; Provided, such spring, well or reservoir is
not situated more than two hundred yards -from the dwelling
house; And provided also, that the tenants in possession of said
dwelling, are the legal and bona fide proprietors of the premises
upon which both said dwelling, spring or reservoir are situ-
ated.

230. The county commissioners for said county, shall direct
the supervisors of public roads in said county, to cause to be
erected and kept up at the public'expense, at all public cross
roads and where public roads fork, indexes or finger boards,
pointing to the nearest town, mill or other public place to which
such road leads, with the names of said places, and the distances
thereto, legibly inscribed thereon.

231. The supervisor shall return a correct account of the ex-
pense of erecting and keeping up said indexes, to the county
commissioners, to be by them levied as other county charges.

232. If any person shall wantonly injure or deface or pull
down any finger board, he shall forfeit and pay a sum not
exceeding five dollars, to be recovered by warrant before a
justice of the peace, in the same manner as other small debts,
one-half to the informer and the other half to the use of the
county.
