886 WASHINGTON COUNTY. [ART. 21.

23. Any one trustee may, under his hand in writing, direct
the admission of any poor person into the said alms-house.

24. If any person shall sell or dispose of any strong liquor or
other thing to, or purchase any thing from, any inmate of said
alms-house, he shall forfeit and pay the sum of forty dollars.

25. All sheriffs, constables, and other officers, shall aid and
assist the trustees of the alms-house, and the officers by them
appointed, in the discharge of their respective duties.

26. If any person shall at any time be sued or prosecuted for
any thing done in pursuance of this law, or of any thing herein
contained, he may plead the general issue and give the special
matter in evidence; and if, upon trial, verdict shall be found for
the defendant, or if the plaintiff shall be non-suit or discontinue,
the defendant shall recover treble costs, and if the plaintiff shall
be unable to pay them, they shall be paid by the attorney who
brought the suit, unless the plaintiff shall give security for the
costs, to be approved by the court.

27. All penalties and forfeitures imposed by this law shall be
recoverable, by the said trustees, before .any justice of the peace,
and applied to the use of the poor of said county, as they shall
direct.

28. The trustees may annually retain, out of the money levied
for their use, the sum of thirty dollars, ae a compensation for
their services.

BOONSBOBOUGH.

29. The citizens of Boonsborough, Slifer's Addition, Holler's
Addition, and Allabaugh Addition, to Boonsborough, in Wash-
ington county, are a body corporate, by the name of The Burgess
and Commissioners of Boonsborongh, and by that name may sue
and be sued, and may have and use a common seal.

30. The bounds of the town of Boonsborough shall embrace
the space of three-fourths of a mile square, the centre of which
is what is known and called as the square in said town, and
whose lines shall be parallel to the lines of said square.

31. The free white male citizens of said town, of the age of
twenty-one years and upwards, and who have resided therein
