884 WASHINGTON COUNTY. [ART. 21.

7. They shall, by their corporate name, be capable to sue and
be sued, and may have and use a common seal, and may, at
their pleasure, change or alter the same.

8. They may purchase beds, bedding, working tools, kitchen
utensils, cows, horses and other necessaries for said alms-house.

9. They, or a majority of them, shall meet between the first
and the tenth day of November, yearly, at the alms-house in said
county, and appoint a fit person to be overseer of the alms-house
in said county, and such other proper officers and servants as to
them may appear necessary for carrying on the business of said
corporation.

10. They shall meet at the alms-house four times in the year,
in the first week in May, August, October, and December, or
oflener if necessary, and make and ordain, by a majority of
votes of such as may be present, all such rules and by-laws aa
they shall think necessary for the support and government of
said alms-house.

11. They shall, under the penalty of fifty dollars, make out
and render to the county commissioners, at their first meeting in
May every year, a statement of their accounts and expenditures,
with the necessary vouchers for the preceding year; which
accounts shall be settled and passed by the commissioners pre-
vious to making the appointment of new trustees,

12. The county commissioners of said county may purchase a
tract of land, not exceeding two hundred acres, for the accommo-
dation of the poor of said county, at such time or times -as they
may deem expedient, and erect thereon all proper and necessary
buildings, and provide the same with all requisite stock, farming
utensils, and whatever in their judgment the accommodation of
the poor and interests of said county may require.

13. They may, at such time and on such terms as they may
deem expedient, sell, exchange or otherwise dispose of the present
alms-house and the lots of ground thereto belonging, and apply
the proceeds thereof to the payment of the debt contracted by a'
new purchase.

14. They may, from time to time, prescribe the mode in which
the products of said farm shall be disposed of and accounted for
