2. The clerk to the county commissioners shall, within five
days after such appointment, make out and deliver to the sheriff
of said county a certificate of the appointment of each of said
trustees, endorsing one of said certificates for each, and the said
sheriff shall, -within ten days thereafter, deliver one thereof to
each of them.
3. The trustees, so -appointed, and notified of their appoint-
ment, under the penalty of twenty-five dollars each, shall accept
said office, and shall meet on the first Monday of June next
ensuing their appointment, (unless prevented by Sickness or
other unavoidable accident, and in such case as soon as the dis-
ability is removed,) at the alms-house of said county, and qualify
by taking the following oath : "I, A. B., do solemnly swear that
I will well and faithfully execute and perform the trust and
duties reposed in me as a trustee of the poor for Washington
county, without favor, partiality, or affection, according to the
beat of my skill and knowledge," which oath may be adminis-
tered by any justice of the peace for said county.
4. All vacancies happening by non-acceptance, death, removal
out of the county, or disqualification of any of said trustees
shall be filled by the county commissioners at their next meet-
ing thereafter.
5. No member of the General Assembly, clergyman, attorney
or practising physician shall be obliged to accept said office, or
shall be liable to the penalty for refusing; and no judge, justice
of the peace or sheriff, or any one who hath not the qualifications
to be a member of the General Assembly, shall be eligible
thereto;

6. The said trustees are a corporation by the name of '.'The
Trustees of the Poor of Washington county," and by that name
shall have perpetual succession, and shall be capable to purchase,
take and hold any lands, tenements or hereditaments not
exceeding the yearly value of sixteen hundred dollars; and such
lands, tenements or hereditaments to rent or lease in such
manner as they may judge most conducive to the interests of
' said poor; and- to take and. receive any sum of money, and any
kind of goods and chattels which may be given, sold or
bequeathed to them by any person, and apply the same for the
use of the poor.
