ART. 20.] TALBOT COUNTY. 841

19. Any justice of the peace of said county, or any person
authorized by a justice of the peace, may apprehend, or cause to
be apprehended, and commit to said alms-house, any rogues,
vagrants, vagabonds, beggars and other idle, dissolute and dis-
orderly persons, who follow no labor, trade or occupation, and
have no visible means of subsistence, found loitering or residing
in said county, there to be kept at hard labor for any time not
exceeding three months.

20. If any person shall sell or dispose of any strong liquor, or
any other thing, to, or purchase any thing from, any inmate of
said alms-house, he shall forfeit the sum of twenty-five dollars.

21. All sheriffs, constables and other officers shall aid and
assist the said trustees, and the officers and servants by them
appointed, in the discharge of their respective duties.

22. If any person shall at any time be sued or prosecuted for
any matter or thing done in performance of this law, or any
matter or thing herein contained, he may plead the general
issue and give the special matter in evidence; and if upon trial
verdict shall be found for the defendant, or if the plaintiff shall
be non-suit or discontinue, the defendant shall recover treble
costs, and if the plaintiff shall be unable to pay them, they shall
be paid by the attorney who brought the suit, unless the plain-
tiff shall give eecurity for the costs approved by the court.

23. All fines and forfeitures imposed by this law shall be
applied one-half to the informer, the other half to the use of the
alms-house.

BAILIFFS.

24. The bailiffs of the Circuit Court for said county, while
attending said court, shall be entitled to two dollars a day.

CIRCUIT COURT.

25. There shall be two terms of the Circuit Court for Talbot
county, commencing at Easton on the third Monday of May and
•bhe third Monday of November in each year.

26. The judge of the Circuit Court for said county, in his dis-
cretion, may appoint intermediate terms between the Circuit
Court terms for the transaction of equity business, to which
