790 ST. MARY'8 COUNTY. [ART. 18.

SCHOOLS.

. 89. The judges of the Orphans' Court of said county shall on
the first Tuesday of November, in every fourth year, appoint five
learned and discreet persons-one to be selected from each elec-
tion district of the county, who shall be styled the board of school
commissioners of St. Mary's county.

90. The said board shall organize by the election of a presi-
dent from among their own number, and a secretary, and they
may make such laws and regulations for the government of the
board as they may deem expedient.

91. They shall meet annually on the first Tuesday of Decem-
ber, and quarterly thereafter, at the court-house in Leonard
Town.

92. The president may call extra meetings, and they may
adjourn from day to day, for four days, whenever in their judg-
ment the business of the board requires it.

93. A majority of the board shall constitute a quorum for the
transaction of business.

94. In case of a vacancy in said board, the Orphans' Court, at
its first meeting thereafter, shall appoint some suitable person
to fill such vacancy, who shall serve until the next regular ap-
pointment of school commissioners.

95. The register of wills of said county shall be treasurer of
the school fund for said county, and shall receipt for all money
that now is or may hereafter be made applicable by law to the
common schools of the county.

96. He shall give bond to the State of Maryland, approved by
the Orphans' Court, in the sum of five thousand dollars, for the
safe keeping of all money that may come to his hands.

97. He shall pay all orders of the school commissioners of the
county, which shall be signed by the president and a majority
of the board.

98. He shall be entitled to receive for his services the sum of
one hundred and fifty dollars annually.
