JUSTICES OF THE PEACE AND CONSTABLES.

37. There shall be the following number of justices of the
peace and constables for St. Mary's county, to wit: for elec-
tion district number one, two justices of the peace and two con-
stables; for election district number two, three justices of the
peace and two constables; for election district number three,
three justices of the peace and three constables; for election dis-
trict number four, three justices of the peace and three consta-
bles; for election district number five, two justices of the peace
and two constables; for election district number six, two justices
of the peace and two constables.

LEONARD TOWN.

38. The citizens of the village of Leonard Town, in St.
Mary's county, are a body corporate by the name of "The Com-
missioners of the Village of Leonard Town," and by that name
may sue and be sued, and may purchase and hold real, personal
and mixed property, or dispose of the same for the benefit of the
said village, and have and use a common seal, which may be
changed at pleasure.

39. The free white male citizens of the village of Leonard
Town, above twenty-one years of age, who shall have resided in
said village for the space of four months, and twelve months in
the State, next preceding the election, and shall be at the time
citizens of the United States, shall, at the court-house in said
village, on the first Monday in May in each year, or such other
house as may be designated the Town Hall by the said munici-
pality, elect five discreet persons commissioners for the said
village, and who shall have resided within the limits of said
village for at least twelve months next preceding the election.

40. All elections shall be held and conducted as shall be from
time to time directed by the by-laws of the corporation; the
same not being inconsistent with the provisions of this charter.

41. Every commissioner elected, before he shall proceed to
execute the duties of his office, shall take an oath before some
justice of the peace of the county, that he will diligently and
faithfully, according to the best of his judgment, perform the
duties of a commissioner of the said village, without favor, par-
tiality or prejudice; and a certificate of such qualification shall
