756 QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY. [ART. 17.

negroes found wandering about the streets at night, and shall
exercise all the powers of a constable within said town.

55. The market days.in said town shall be Wednesdays and
Saturdays, and the market hours shall be until noon. of said days;

but any person bringing marketing of any description to said
town may dispose of the same without taking it to the market
house, except on market days, when he shall take it to the
market house, and not dispose of it elsewhere on said days before
the hour of ten o'clock, A.M.; the provisions of this section not
to extend to fish, oysters, and cooked provisions, beef by the
quarter or larger quantity, or pork by the hog, or any kind of
grain, flour and bread, or butter in firkins or other vessels ex-
ceeding twenty pounds net weight, cheese, beef. and pork in
barrels or larger casks, live cattle, sheep and hogs brought to said
town, which may be sold at any time and place in said town.

56. If any person shall buy or sell any articles of provisions in
said town, or within two miles thereof, contrary to the provisions
of the preceding section, except at his own residence, he shall
forfeit the sum of five dollars.

57. If any person shall butcher any kind of cattle, sheep or
h&ga, in or near the market house in said town, or shall put any
horse, mare, gelding, cart, wagon or carriage into or under said
market house, he shall forfeit the sum of two dollars and fifty
cents.

58. The commissioners of said town shall appoint a clerk of the
market, who shall, before he proceeds to act as such, make. oath
before the said commissioners that he will diligently and faith-
fully, according to the best of his skill and judgment, perform the
duties of his office.

89. The clerk of the market may, under the direction of the
commissioners, rent the stalls and shambles, and shall keep an
account of the persons renting and of the profits arising there-
from, and shall render duplicates of said accounts to the com-
missioners, on the first Monday of April annually, or oftener if
required.

60. The said rents and profits shall be paid to the commis-
