unless the owner thereof shall actually reside on the premises
where the same is erected, or where said hogs are kept, and any
person offending against the provisions of this section shall
forfeit the sum of two dollars for every day he shall continue
said sty or keep said hogs after five days' notice to remove them
by the commissioners.

44. If the owner of any dead animal shall suffer the same to
remain within the limits of said town. for twenty-four hours
after he shall know of the death of the same, he shall forfeit
two dollars.

45. If the owner of any stallion shall parade him through
the streets or on the public ground in said town, or suffer him
to cover within the same, he shall forfeit two dollars for each
offence.

46. No person shall keep a dog or bitch in said town without
obtaining a license from the clerk of the commissioners for
that purpose in the month of April in each year, and paying for
every dog one dollar and for every bitch two dollars; and if
any person shall bring a dog or bitch into said town after the
month of April, he shall procure a license within ten days there-
after.

47. The owner of every dog or bitch for which a license shall
be obtained shall have a collar put around his neck, and any dog
found going at large without such collar shall be killed by the
sheriff.

48*. The commissioners of the town of Centreville may cause
an asBesBment and valuation of all the real and personal property
in said town, bank stock, bonds, notes and other evidences of
debt excepted, to be made between the first day of April and the
first day of May next, and may levy on the property so assessed
such sums of money as they deem necessary for the improvement
of said town; but said levy, after the first day o^ April, eighteen
hundred and sixty-two, shall not exceed two hundred and eighty
dollars. •

V)*. The said commissioners shall appoint two persons to make
said assessment, who shall make oath before the said commission-
ers that they will faithfully and impartially make the same to
