commissioners a report specifying the length of time a school
has been taught in such district, the amount of money received
by them, the manner in which the same has been expended, and,
as nearly as may be, the number of children taught.
69. If any trustee shall make a false certificate or report, by
means whereof any moneys shall be fraudulently obtained from
the county commissioners, or unjustly apportioned by them, he
shall forfeit double the amount so fraudulently obtained, to be
recovered by action of debt before the Circuit Court for said
county, or any justice of the peace thereof, in the name of tho
county commissioners, and for the use of primary schools.
70. The trustees of any primary school district may receive into
their schools any children under the age of twenty-one years.
71. They may require from any child attending school the
payment of any sum of money not exceeding fifty cents per
month, to be applied to defray the expenses of the school; and
may increase or diminish said sum or discontinue the payment
thereof altogether, and may graduate the payments thereof
according to the ability of the children and the exigencies of
the school.
72*. The public school inspectors of said county shall be en-
titled to receive such compensation as is now allowed by law
to the county commissioners of Howard county, to be levied
annually by the county commissioners, as other county charges
are levied.
73. The county commissioners In each year shall make and
transmit to the General Assembly a report embracing the same
matters embraced in the reports from the trustees of the several
school districts to them.
SHERIFF.
74. The sheriff of Howard county shall be allowed for keeping
and boarding prisoners committed to the jail of said county, for
breach of the peace, criminal offences or otherwise, and for keep-
ing and boarding any runaway negro slave committed thereto
by any citizen of this State, the sum of forty cents per day, to"
be levied and collected according to law.
