598 FREDERICK OOTTNTY. [ART, 11.

315. No inhabitant of Liberty, in said county, or inhabitant of
any email lots of ground containing less than ten acres of land,
lying within a quarter of a mile of said town, shall raise or keep
any swine or geese -within said town, or within a quarter of a
mile thereof, except in enclosures, or suffer any geese or swine
to go at large in said town, or within a quarter of a mile of said
town; and any person may kill or impound any swine or geese,
BO going at large, and, if impounded, shall immediately give
notice, by advertisement set up at the most public places in the
town, describing such swine or geese; and if the owner shall not,
within five days from the time of giving such notice, prove his
property and make compensation for any injury done to any
inhabitant of said town, to be ascertained by two disinterested
inhabitants thereof, and pay for every swine the sum of twenty-
five cents for every day it shall have been impounded, and for
every goose the sum of twelve and a half cents, the person im-
pounding may sell or kill the same for his own benefit.

316. If any person, shall be aued for killing any swine, geese
or poultry, under either of the three last preceding sections, he
may plead the general issue, and give the special matter in
evidence.

"WITNESSES.

317. Bach witness attending the Circuit Court or Orphan's
:iCpurfc for Frederick county, shall be entitled to the sum of one
'S&llar a day for each day'a attendance, besides itinerant charges
to be allowed to witnesses coming from other counties.

318. The county commissioners for Frederick county shall
annually levy a sufficient sum in advance, to pay the State's
witnesses in said county, at the close of each term of the Circuit
Court.

319. The collector of said county shall, -whenever any person
shall present to him an order from the clerk of the Circuit Court
for his attendance as a State's witness, pay to such person or his
order, the amount due him, after deducting therefrom all charges
the collector may have against such witness.

WOLVES AND FOXES.

320. Any person who shall kill any wolf in Frederick county,
shall be entitled to compensation therefor from the county, as
