vided process be served on the defendant, at least ten days before
the beginning of the term, unless good cause of continuance be
shown; and the defendant shall not be entitled to any stay of
execution upon such judgment, but may supersede the same
•within sixty days after its rendition, for six months, to be com-
puted from the date of the judgment.
297. The inspectors of primary schools shall, on or before the
first day of July, in each year, make and transmit a report to
the General Assembly of Maryland, embodying the same matters
that shall be contained in the report of the trustees of the several
school districts to them, as hereinbefore directed.
298. Each inspector of primary schools shall receive the sum
of two dollars per diem, whilst in the discharge of his duties, to
be paid out of the school fund.
299. The citizens ofWoodville district in said county, qualified
to vote for members of the General Assembly, may elect the
teacher in said primary school district, having given ten days'
notice of the election, by putting up notices at three of the most
public places in the district, ten days previous to the election.
800. No person shall be eligible as teacher at such election,
unless he has a certificate from the board of inspectors, that he is
competent to teach all the branches to be taught in the primary
schools in said county.
301. Free schools are established in the city of Frederick,
under the care of superintendents; and in case of the resignation
or refusal to serve of any superintendent, the aldermen and
common council of Frederick shall fill the vacancy at their first
meeting thereafter.
802. Seven of said superintendents shall be a quorum, for the
transaction of business.
303. The superintendents have power to make all necesaary
rules and regulations for the government of the schools, and
shall purchase books, stationery and fuel, provide school houses,
visit and examine into the condition of the schools at least once
in every three months, dismiss any teacher for incompetency, im-
proper conduct, or other satisfactory cause, and appoint a suc-
cessor ; pay the salaries of teachers, and all incidental expenses,
