accounts settled by the treasurer or overseer of the alms-house,
with the trustees, shall be on oath that they are just and true, to
be administered by any one of the trustees.

22. The trustees shall, under the penalty of fifty dollars each,
make out and render to the county commissioners, at their first
meeting in January in each year, a statement of their accounts
and expenditures, with the necessary vouchers for the preceding
year, which accounts shall be settled and acted upon by the
county commissioners, prior to the appointment of trustees for
the new year.

23. The overseer shall keep a list of all poor, beggars, vagrants,
vagabonds and other offenders, who shall be committed to said
alms-house, and regular accounts of all materials and other
things that may come to his hands as overseer, and shall lay said
lists and accounts before the trustees or the majority of them,
when required.

24. He may compel any of the inmates of said alms-house, if
of sufficient ability, to work.

25. Upon complaint made that any person, from his disorderly
conduct, gives disturbance to a neighborhood, and is likely to
become chargeable to the county, any justice of the peace of the
county, if upon hearing the party he shall adjudge the com-
plaint to be well founded, may commit such disorderly person to
•the alma-house for any time not exceeding three months, unless
he shall find security at the discretion of the justice in any sum
not exceeding fifty dollars, for his good behavior for the space
of six months.

26. Upon complaint and due proof made by any one trustee,
or the overseer of the alms-house, to any justice of the peace,
that any person in the said alms-house hath behaved in a dis-
orderly manner, or hath refused or neglected to perform his daily
labor and task, or to obey any of the rules, ordinances, or by-laws
of the said corporation, the said justice may order and direct
such moderate and proper correction, not exceeding thirty-nine
lashes for any one offence, to be given to such offender as the
nature of the case shall require.

27. Any one trustee may, in writing, direct the admission of
any poor person into said alms-house.
