46 ALLEGANY COUNTY. [ART. 1.

180. They may appoint a clerk and assign his duties, and allow
him such compensation as they may think proper.

181. All ordinances of said corporation shall be entered by the
clerk in a book to be kept by him for that purpose, and shall be
open at all times to the inspection of any person interested
therein, and a copy of all ordinances shall be set up at the most
public places in the town, that they may be generally known.

182. The commissioners may make such by-laws and ordi-
nances, not contrary to law, as they may deem expedient for the
comfort, health, convenience and prosperity of the town; for
the prevention or removal of nuisances, preservation of health,
and suppression of vice and immorality in said town.

183. They may lay an equal tax on the property in said town
to such amount as may from time to time be deemed necessary
to accomplish the purposes mentioned in the preceding section,
which tax shall be collected and paid to the president and com-
missioners, by a collector by them appointed, and the said col-
lector may distrain therefor as the collectors of county taxes.

184. They shall fix the term of office, amount of bond, and
compensation of said collector.

185. They may annually appoint a bailiff, who shall preserve
the peace and good order of the town, and for that purpose shall
have all the powers of a constable.

186. All fines and forfeitures imposed by the ordinances of said
corporation, shall be recoverable as small debts are before any
justice of the peace.

187. The said corporation shall not issue any device, token,
note, certificate or evidence of debt, to be used as currency.

WHD ANIMALS.

188. Any citizen of this State who shall kill or destroy any
wolf, panther, wild cat, or fox, within the limits of Allegany
county, shall be entitled to the following allowance, to wit: For
each wolf's scalp, the sum of twenty dollars; for each wild cat's
scalp, the sum of seventy-five cents; for each fox scalp, the sum
