172. If a keeper be appointed, he shall perform such duties as
are required by law of such officer, or so much thereof as the
county commissioners shall deem necessary, and he shall bo en-
titled to such compensation as they shall establish, and shall
give bond in the penalty of one hundred dollars for the safe
keeping of such standards, and the performance of the duties of
his office.

WESTEBNPOKT.

178. The citizens of the town of Westemport, in Allegany
county, are a body corporate, by the name of the " Commission-
ers of Westemport," and by that hame may sue and be sued,
and may 'have and use a common seal.

174. The limits of Westemport shall extend to the distance of
three-eighths of a mile each way from the public square in said
town.

175. The free male white citizens of Westemport, of the age
of twenty-one years and upwards, being citizens of the United
States, who have resided in said town for six months next pre-
ceding the election, shall on the first Monday in June in each
year, at such place as shall be designated by the municipality,
elect five persons who have resided in Westemport for six
months next preceding the election, commissioners of said town.

176. All elections for commissioners shall be held and con-
ducted as shall from time to time be directed by the ordinances
of the corporation, not contrary to law.

177. If any of the said commissioners shall die, resign, remove
from said town, or be otherwise disqualified, an election shall be
held to fill the vacancy after ten days' notice thereof given by
said commissioners, and all persons qualified to vote at the regu-
lar may vote at such special election.

178. The commissioners so elected shall at their first meeting
choose one of their own number president of the Board, who
shall, preside at all meetings of the commissioners, and preserve
order and shall enforce the provisions of the charter and ordi-
nances of said town.

179. The commissioners may meet from time to time, as occa-
sion may require, and not less than once in every three months.
