said county, among the several school districts, according to the
number of children attending upon said schools.
76. Whenever it shall happen that the amount arising from the
annual income of the school fund, in addition to the State's ap-
propriations, is not sufficient to keep the schools in operation
during the year, the trustees of the school district may, at their
discretion, levy on the parents or guardians of the children
attending the schools, to supply the deficiency.
77. The amount so levied shall, in no instance, exceed one
dollar per quarter for any one pupil; and in all cases regard shall
be had to the condition of the parents, or of the children, if or-
phans, and whenever in the judgment of the trustees the parents,
or the children, if orphans, are unable to pay, they shall admit
the children free.
• 78. The trustees of any school district may sell any school
house or lot within the district, and give a good and valid deed
'for the same, whenever the public interest of the district may
-require it: Provided, such sale shall be authorized by the legal
•voters of the district.
79. The trustees making any such sale shall appropriate the
proceeds thereof to the purchase of another lot, the building of
another school house, or make such other disposition of it as the
-legal voters of such district may determine.

80. The county commissioners of Carroll county shall provide
and furnish a room in the court house for the use of the school
commissioners, and for the safe keeping of the records and
papers of the board.
SHERIFF.
81. The sheriff of •Carroll county shall be entitled to twenty-
five cents per day for boarding each prisoner or person com-
mitted to or confined in the jail of said county.

82*. The citizens of "Uniontown in Carroll county, Maryland,
•with additions hereby described, commencing at the alley or lane
west of Bamey Drennen's lot at the west end of Uniontown and
running south twenty-five perches, then parallel with the main
