them until the damage, with the expense of keeping the same,
shall be paid.

133. The damage sustained by any person as mentioned in
the preceding section shall be ascertained by two freeholders,
one chosen by the owner of such swine and the other by the
person impounding, or if either refuse, both by the other party,
and if the referees cannot agree they may choose a third.

134. Any person who shall impound any swine under the 132d
section of this article, shall advertise the same at least fifteen
days at the store doors of said town, and at the Methodist meet-
ing house near thereto, and at the end of said fifteen days, if no
person shall claim the same, prove property and pay damages
and costs of keeping, the person impounding may sell such swine
at public sale and apply the proceeds to the payment of the
damages sustained by him, and pay the surplus, if any, to the
owner.

135. If any person 'residing in said town shall permit his
chimney to catch fire so as to blaze out of the top, he shall
forfeit and pay the sum of three dollars.

186. Any person residing in said town, who shall keep or
suffer any dog or bitch to remain about his house for the space
of one week, shall, on or before the first day of January, annually,
pay the sum of fifty cents.

JUKOBS.

137. Bach juror summoned to the Circuit Court for Caroline
county shall be entitled to one dollar and fifty cents for oaoh
day's attendance, and five cents for every mile that his place of
residence is distant from Denton, such mileage to be computed
for each day's attendance.

JUSTICES or THE PEACE AND CONSTABLES.

138. There shall be the following number of justices of the
peace and constables for Caroline county: for election district
number one, two justices of the peace and one constable; for
election district number two, three justices of the peace and one
constable; for election district number three, two justices of the
peace and one constable; and for election district number four,
two justices of the peace and one constable.
