278 CITY OF BALTIMORE. [ART. 4.

665. The commanding officer of the company shall forthwith
cause such return to be entered in his company book, and within
five days after each of said meetings shall transmit a copy of the
same to the commanding officer of his regiment, together with a
consolidated return of the strength of his company, which con-
solidated return shall be entered on the books of the regiment.

666. At the meeting directed by this article for the division
review and regimental parades, the commanding officer of each
regiment shall cause the names of all the regimental and staff
officers of the regiment to be called over by the adjutant, or such
person as he may appoint, who shall note those who are absent,
and within two days after each of said meetings shall make return
'in writing of such absentees to the commanding officer of his
regiment, and if he shall refuse or neglect to do so, he shall be
fined a sum not exceeding fifty dollars, in the discretion of such
court martial as the case may require.

667. The commanding officer of the regiment shall forthwith
cause the said return to be entered in his regimental book, and
within ten days after each of said meetings shall transmit a copy
of the same to the commanding officer of the brigade to which
he belongs, together with a consolidated return of the strength
of his regiment, which consolidated return shall be entered upon
the books of the brigade.

668. The commanding officer of each brigade shall, within
twenty days after each division review, transmit to the com-
manding officer of the division a consolidated return of the
strength of his brigade, which shall be entered on the books of
the division.

669. The commanding officer of the division shall, within ten
days after the receipt of the returns from the commanding
officers of the brigades, transmit to the adjutant general of this
State a consolidated return of the strength of his division.

670. If any officer shall neglect or refuse to discharge the duty
imposed upon him to make the aforesaid returns, he shall be
fined a sum not exceeding one hundred dollars, in the discretion
of such court martial as the case may require.

671. It shall be the duty of the oldest colonel in rank, on
parade in each brigade, to ascertain and report in writing to the
