kerf, and shall be set up, packed and corded so that every cord
of wood shall be eight feet in length, four feet in breadth and four
feet in height, well stoved and .packed, and where the wood
exceeds or falls shart of four feet in length, including half the
kerf, the cord shall be proportionably increased or diminished so
as to make the quantity of each cord as nearly equal as possible.

556. The inspectors and corders of wood shall, upon request,
inspect and cord any firewood agreeably to the measurement and
directions contained in the last preceding section, but any person
may buy, sell, export or otherwise dispose of any firewood with-
out the same being inspected or corded; and in all caats of differ-
ence between the buyer and seller as to the quantity, quality or
measurement of any firewood, either party may call in a licensed
inspector, and his judgment, if not appealed from, shall bind the
parties.

557. The inspectors and corders shall give to each person for
. whom they inspect and cord any firewood a certificate of the
quantity contained in any lot of wood by them inspected and
corded, stating the hour and day when the inspection was made.

558. If any person shall consider himself aggrieved by the
measurement of any inspector and corder, he may before sunset
in the day on which the wood has been inspected, apply to the
mayor of the city to select three persons to examine into the
cause of the complaint.

559. The persons so appointed shall not be vendors of wood or'
purchasers, (except for their family use,) and shall, before acting
on such appeal, make the following oath before some person
authorized to administer the same : " I do solemnly swear that I
will faithfully and impartially try the matter depending on this
appeal, and determine the same according to my best judgment,
without fear, favor or affection, so help me God."

560. Such appeal shall be made and tried before the snnsetting
on the day on which the wood was inspected.

561. The reviewers, before they proceed to act, shall give
notice of the time of making the review to the buyer, seller and
corder of the wood to be reviewed, or shall be satisfied by compe-
tent testimony that such notice has been given by some of the
parties; and shall also be satisfied, either by the admission of all
