291. No license shall authorize any inspector of coal to act as
such without the limits of the city.

292. Any person not having a license, who shall act as in-
spector of coal, or who having a license shall act as such in-
spector without the limits of the city, shall forfeit and pay to
the sheriff of the city the sum of two hundred dollars; said
penalty to be imposed as a fine by the Criminal Court on pre-
sentment or indictment by the grand jury and conviction in due
course of law; and one-third of the penalty shall be paid by the
sheriff to the informer, and the residue shall be accounted for by
the sheriff to the treasury as other fines.

FISH.

293. The Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the
Senate, shall biennially appoint three inspectors of salted fish in
the city of Baltimore, one of whom shall be styled the chief in-
spector and the others sub-inspectors.

294. Each inspector shall enter into bond to the State of Mary-
land, with good and sufficient securities to be approved of and
retained by the Treasurer, in the penal sum of two hundred
dollars, conditioned for the true and faithful discharge of his
duties as inspector.

295. It shall be the duty of the chief inspector diligently to
superintend, aid and assist the sub-inspectors when engaged in
the discharge of their official duties.

296. It shall be the duty of each sub-inspector promptly to
obey any notice he may receive requiring his attendance in any
place in said city, and should either of them refuse to attend
after receiving such notice for more than the opace of two hours,
he shall be liable to a fine often dollars.

297. If any sub-inspector shall neglect his duty by wilfully
absenting himself therefrom, unless by permission of the chief
inspector, such sub-inspector so absenting himself, except by
permission of the chief inspector, shall, during and for the time
of his absence, receive no compensation.

298. If the chief inspector shall, upon a careful and impartial
examination, be satisfied that a sub-inspector has either wilfully
