110. Any master or overseer wilfully suffering any servant or
slave under his management to put quick lime in any stream of
water in said county, shall forfeit the sum of twenty dollars, to
be recovered and applied as directed in the preceding section.
111. If any servant or slave shall put quick lime in any stream
of water in said county, without the privity or knowledge of his
master or overseer, he shall, on conviction thereof before any
justice of the peace for said county, be whipped, not exceeding
thirty-nine lashes, at the discretion of the justice.
INSPECTOR AND WOOD CORDER AT CLARK^VIILE.
112. The Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the
Senate, shall biennially appoint one inspector and corder of fire
wood, brought by the railroad cars, or by wagons or carts, and
delivered between the fourteenth and sixteenth miles on the
Baltimore and Susquehanna Railroad, and within the space of
one-half of a mile on the east and west of said road for sale.
113. The person so appointed for examining and measuring
fire wood in the bounds BO prescribed, shall receive six and a
quarter cents for each cord measured by him, to be paid by the
seller thereof.
114. He shall not, either by himself or any other person, buy,
trade or barter for any fire wood, on the .way to, or brought to
Clarksv.ille, or within the bounds of his inspection district, other
than for his own family use.
115. All fire wood brought for sale by the railroad cars, or by
wagons or carts to Clarksville, or between the fourteenth and
sixteenth miles on the Baltimore and Susquehanna Eailroad, and
within one-half mile on the east and west sides of said road, shall
be at least four feet in length, including one-half of the kerf, and
shall be set, packed up and corded, under the direction of the
inspector and wood corder, and shall be measured.
116. Every cord of wood shall be eight feet in length, four feet
in breadth, and 'four feet in height, well stowed and packed, and
where the wood to be measured exceeds or falls short of four
feet in length, including half the kerf, the cord of wood shall be
proportionately increased or diminished, so as to make the quan-
tity of each cord as nearly equal as possible.
