4 PREFACE.

The undersigned has endeavored faithfully to incorporate the
Acts of the late Legislature, in their proper places, in the Code.
They are distinguished by an asterisk (*) at the commencement
of each section. He has likewise labored to make the Index
complete, minute and accurate. The Index to the first volume,
containing the Public General Laws, is at the close of the
volume, and refers to article and sections; in the second
volume, containing the Public Local Laws, each article is sepa-
rately indexed, and the references are to sections.

The Act of Assembly by which the Code was adopted, and
the Act defining the powers and duties of the undersigned, and
directing the printing of the Code, will be found on the
following pages.
