Mr. Keech submitted the following amendment:

Strike out in section 12 the word "Circuit," and insert
Orphans' Court.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Wentz submitted the following amendments :

Pages 6, 7 and 8, of printed bill, strike out sub-title
"County Superintendent and County School Commissioners,"
and insert "County Boards."

Strike out section 12 and insert the following in lieu
thereof: "Section 3. The Board of County School Commis-
sioners shall be composed of one Commissioner for each elec-
tion district, to serve four years, to be appointed by the
Judges of the Circuit Court, on or before the first Wednes-
day in May, provided that the School Board in no county
shall consist of more than eight Commissioners.

Which were adopted.

Mr. Nicolai submitted the following amendment.:

Strike out all after the word May.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Keech submitted the following amendment:

Section 13, 2nd line, strike out the word " the," and
insert the word " such," and after the word " district,"
insert the words " as may be tax-payers, parents or guardians
of pupils attending the school for which trustees are to be
elected."

Which was rejected.

Mr. Wentz submitted the following amendments :

Chapter 3, sub-title " The State Board of Education."
section 1, line 2, strike out " January" and insert "May,"
and strike out "July" and insert "November."

Pages 7, 8 and 9, of printed bill, section 2, strike out all
to "Superintendent," in line 4; line 6, after "Act,"
insert " giving preference to such, hooks as may be edited
and published in this State, by citizens thereof, having at
the same time a due regard for the public interest.

Section 5, line 1, after " of," strike out " the Maryland
State Teachers' Association " and insert " each Board of
County School Commissioners;" line 3, strike out "ten "
and insert " five ; " line 5, after " route,' strike out " and
shall be excused from his scholastic duties during such attend-
ance upon the meetings of the State Board and insert " pro-
vided that no sessions of said Board shall continue longer
than five days each;" line 7, strike out Superintendent"
and insert "Commissioner;" line 9, strike out all after
"mileage."
