A bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Mechanics' Loan
and Savings Institution, of Clearspring, Maryland.

Which was read a first time.
Also,

A bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Savings Institu-
tion of Sandy Springs, Maryland.

Which was read a first time.
Also,

A bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Maryland Land
and Permanent Homestead Association of Baltimore county.

Which was read a first time.
Also,

The Senate hill entitled an Act to incorporate the Wando
Company.

Which was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed
tor a third reading.

Mr. Beck, Chairman of a select committee, (the rules being
suspended) reported favorably,

A bill entitled an Act to amend the Public Local Laws of
Kent county, title Chestertown, by repealing sections 35 and
46, and to re-enact the same as amended.

Which was read a first time.

The hour of 12 o'clock, noon, having arrived, the House in
accordance with the Act of Congress, July 1866, chapter 245,
entitled an Act to regulate the time and manner of holding
elections for Senators in Congress, proceeded to hold an elec-
tion for a Senator in the Congress of the United States, the
Hon. Philip Francis Thomas, Senator elect, having been re-
fused a seat in that body by the said Senate of the United
States.

The roll being called it appeared by a viva voce vote of each
member present, that

Hon. Philip F. Thomas received 33 votes.
