Mr, Chaisty presented the petition of some 900 citizens
from Baltimore for the repeal or modification of the Sunday
law.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.

Mr. Syester presented the petition of Geo. P. Rhodes and
80 other citizens of Frederick and Howard counties, for the
creation of an additional inspector of tobacco, and the estab-
lishment of an additional tobacco warehouse.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Inspec-
tions.

Mr. Blake submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it be placed on the Journal, that Mr. Morse
is absent from his seat in consequence of sickness.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Coudy submitted the following order :

Ordered, That the Committee on Education he instructed
to report forthwith upon the subject of the general school
law.

Which was read.

Mr. McElroy submitted the following amendment :

Strike out the word "forthwith," and insert the words
"during the present week."

Decided in the negative.

Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city, moved to lay the order on
table.

The question being upon concurring in the motion,
Mr. Coudy demanded the yeas and nays.

The demand being sustained, the yeas and nays were called
and appeared as follows :
