458 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 20,

The bill entitled an Act authorizing the procurement of a
portrait of His Excellency Thomas Swann, Governor of Mary-
land, and appropriating a sum of money therefor,

Was read a third time,

Mr. Legg moved that the bill be recommitted to the Com-
mittee on Ways and Means.

Pending the consideration of which,

Mr. Wentz moved that the House do now adjourn until to
morrow morning at 11 o'clock.

Decided in the negative.

Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city, submitted the following
amendment, to the motion submitted by Mr. Legg :

And the Committee on Ways and Means, are hereby in-
structed not to appropriate a sum beyond five hundred dollars
for the purpose of procuring the contemplated portrait of
Governor Swann.

Which was rejected.

The question then recurring upon the adoption of the
motion submitted by Mr. Legg,

Mr. Con way demanded the yeas and nays.

The demand being sustained,
