CHAPTER 467.

AN ACT to repeal Section nine hundred and
thirty-nine, Article four, of the Public Local
Laws, relating to Baltimore city, sub-title
"Water," as enacted by Chapter thirty-eight,
of the Acts of the General Assembly, passed at
the January Session, eighteen hundred and
sixty-six, and to re-enact the said Section so as
to read as follows:

Repealed and
re-enacted.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Section nine hundred and
thirty-nine, Article four, Public Local Laws, re-
lating to Baltimore city, sub- title "Water," as
enacted by Chapter thirty-eight, of the Acts of the
General Assembly, passed at the January Session,
eighteen hundred and sixty-six, be and the same
is hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read as
follows :

Issue certifi-
cates of debt.

939. For the purpose of defraying all the ex-
penses and costs of said lands, waters and water-
rights as shall have been taken for the purposes
aforesaid, and of constructing all works necessary
to the accomplishment of said purposes, and all
expenses incident thereto, the said Mayor and City
Council of Baltimore shall have authority in the
name of the city to issue certificates of debt to be
denominated on the face "Baltimore Water Stock,"
to an amount not exceeding four millions and five
hundred thousand dollars, bearing interest not ex-
ceeding six percent, per annum, and to provide by
ordinance for the redemption of the same at a cer-
tain time, and under such provisions as the Mayor
and City Council may deem expedient and proper;

Assess rates
for water.

the said Mayor and City Council are hereby au-
authorized and empowered to assess rates for the
supply and use of water at any point in Baltimore
city and County, and the Mayor and City Council
are hereby authorized to enforce payment for the
use of water, and other expenses incurred in the
introduction of water from the water mains, ac-
cording to the rates established by the said Mayor
and City Council, said payments to be enforced by
the same process that city or State taxes are col-
