CHAPTER 419.
AN ACT to incorporate the Mutual Horse Thief
Detective and Live Stock Insurance Company of
Washington county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Samuel Baker, John S. Bowles,
Jacob A. Thomas, Fred. K. Zeigler, Andrew R.
Schoubly, John W. Breathod, Henry F. Zeller, A.
K. Stake, Abut Small, George W. Smith Jr , Sam'l
J. Peiper, Edward M. Mealy, Dr. N. P. Scott,
Elias E. Rohrer, David Seibert, Dr. W. K. Rid-
dlemoser, E. G. W. Stake, A, R. Appleman,
William Dodge, David Troup, Daniel H. Hyett,
Philip H. Wingert and Michael Newcomer, and
their successors, together with all other persons who
may hereafter become members of the Corporation
to be created by this Act, are hereby created and

declared to be a body politic and corporate by the
name, style and title of the Mutual Horse Thief
Detective and Live Stock Insurance Company of
Washington county, and by the same name shall
have succession, and shall be able to sue and be
sued, plead and be impleaded, answer and de-
fend, and be answered and defended in all courts of
law and equity in this State or elsewhere ; to have,
make and use a common seal, and the same to
break, alter and renew at their pleasure ; and shall
have full power and authority to make insurances
on horses, mules and cattle, against loss by acci-
dent, death, or from other causes ; to provide for
the keeping aad investment of any funds or assets
that may become the property of the company, and
Generally to transact, execute and perform all such
usiness as may appertain to a Horse Thief Detec-
tive and Live Stock Insurance Company, not being
contrary to this Act or the Constitution and laws
of this State or of the United States.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the Secretary of the said Company to keep
a book containing a copy of this Act, and of such
constitution and by-laws of the said Company as
may be established ; and that all persons who
may wish to become members of the said Com-
pany shall be required to express, in writing, on
