CHAPTER 416.

 

AN ACT appointing a Committee with authority
to purchase a lot or lots of ground in the city of
Annapolis, and causing to be erected thereon a
mansion for the Governor of this State, and
making an appropriation therefor.

Committee.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Governor of this State, the
Honorable John C. Walsh of the Senate, the
Honorable Thomas W. Hammond, the Hon. John
S. Brown, and the Hon. Ferdinand C. Latrobe,
members of the House of Delegates, be and they
are hereby appointed a Committee, and as such
they are hereby authorized to purchase a lot or
lots of ground in the city of Annapolis, for the
purpose of erecting thereon a mansion as a resi-
dence for the Governor of this State ; provided,
that the title to the said property shall first be
examined by the Attorney General, and reported
by him to be good ; and provided further, that the
said Committee shall report to the General Assem-
bly of Maryland the site selected by them, which
report shall be confirmed and adopted by the Gen-
eral Assembly before the Committee shall close
such purchase.

Erect a
mansion.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That after the pur-
chase of the said lot or lots of ground by the said
Committee, as authorized and provided in the first
Section of this Act, they, the said Committee, are
hereby authorized and directed to cause to be
erected thereon a mansion as a residence for the
Governor of this State, or if in their judgment
they may see fit to adapt by such improvement or
alteration as may be necessary any building al-
ready on said ground to such purpose, and to have
improved the grounds annexed thereto ; provided,
that the cost of the erection or adaption and alter-
ation of the said building and improvement of the
grounds, including the purchase of the lot or lots
of ground as provided for in the first Section of
this Act, shall not exceed in cost the sum of
seventy-five thousand dollars.
