have succession and be capable in law of purchas-
ing, holding, selling, leasing and conveying lands,
tenements, goods, chatties and other property,
real, personal and mixed, provided that the value
of the property held at any one time shall not ex-
ceed fifty thousand dollars, and to sue and be sued,
plead and be impleaded, and to make, have and
use a common seal, and the same to break, alter
and renew at pleasure, and generally to do all acts
and things which may be necessary to carry in

effect the provisions of this Charter ; provided,
that nothing herein contained shall be construed
to authorize said corporation to issue any scrip or
other device as currency, and that the General As-
sembly reserves the right to amend or repeal this
Act when the same shall be deemed advisable.

Proviso.
|
Sec. 3 . And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 375.
AN ACT to repeal Section six hundred and twen-
ty-three of Article four of the Public Local
Laws, entitled " City of Baltimore," sub-title
"Justices of the Peace and Constables," and
to re-enact the same with amendments.

SECTION 1 . Se it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Section six hundred and twen-
ty-three of Article four of the Public Local
Laws, entitled "City of Baltimore," sub-title
"Justices of the Peace and Constables," be and
the same is hereby repealed, and the following
substituted therefor :

623. Every summons issued by said Justices
shall be made returnable before the same, or any
Justice of the Peace of the ward in which the

Summons.
