SEC. 12. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage, and the Legislature reserves to
itself the right to alter or amend this Act at pleasure.

The amendments were adopted.

Mr. Latrobe submitted the following amendment to the
amendments submitted by the Committee on Corporations.

Amendment proposed.
Additional section as section 12 :

And be it enacted, That this company shall not be privi-
leged to charge tolls on any vehicles passing over said road
for the purpose of attending funerals.

Which was adopted.

The hill as amended was then read a second time and or-
dered to be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Syester, chairman of the Committee on Ways and
Means, reported favorably a bill entitled an Act authorizing
the procurement of a portrait of his Excellency, Thomas
Swann, Governor of Maryland, and appropriating a sum of
money therefor.

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Iglehart, Chairman of the Committee on Corpora-
tions, reported favorably the Senate hill entitled an Act
to incorporate a company to construct a turnpike road from
Hagerstown to Cearfoss' Cross Roads, in Washington county.

Said bill being upon a second reading,

Mr. Latrobe submitted the following amendment.

Amendment proposed,
Additional section as section 9,

And be it enacted, That this company shall not be privi-
leged to charge tolls on any vehicle passing over this road
for the purpose of attending funerals.

Which was adopted.

The bill as amended was then read a second time.
On motion of Mr. Syester,

The bill was then referred to the Washington county dele-
gation.
