minerals, models and mechanical apparatus ; for
holding exhibitions or fairs, at the discretion of
the Managers, for articles of American manufac-
ture, and for offering premiums or awards for
excellence in those branches of national industry
deemed worthy of encouragement ; by examining
new inventions submitted for that purpose ; and
by such other means necessary for the accomplish-
ment of their objects, as experience may suggest.

Treasurer to
pay.

Sec. 8. And be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland , That the Treasurer of the State of
Maryland be, and he is hereby directed to pay, an-
nually, to the President of the Maryland Institute
for the Promotion of Mechanic Arts, in the month
of April, in lieu of the annual appropriation of
five hundred dollars, now authorized by law, the
sum of three thousand dollars. The said annual
appropriation shall be used solely in behalf of and
in aid of the various schools of learning and edu-
cational departments connected with said Institu-
tion, and shall not be diverted therefrom for any
reason whatever.

Make report
annually.

Sec. 9. And be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the President of the Maryland
Institute for the Promotion of the Mechanic Arts,
shall annually, in the month of September, make
a detailed report of the operations of the schools
of design and other educational departments of
the Institute to the Treasurer of the State of
Maryland.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That this Act shall take effect from
and after the date of its passage.
