said wards of said city, except the first and tenth
wards of said city, which two last named wards
shall be entitled to four Constables each.

 

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the day of its passage.

CHAPTER 178.

AN ACT to incorporate the "Grand United Inde-
pendent Order of Isaac and Rebecca No. 1, of
the City of Annapolis, Maryland.

 

SECTION 1. Se it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That London Pinkney, Samuel May-
nard, George E. Smith, William Polk, Benjamin
Simms, Samuel Byas, Edward Johnson, William
Smothers, Elizabeth Smith, Ann J. Maynard,
Mary A. Johnson, Sylvia Polk, Charlotte Pointer,
Celia Brooks and Louisa Chew, all colored, and
their associates and successors, be, and they are
hereby declared and made a community, corpora-
tion and body politic by the name, style and title
of the " Grand United Independent Order of Isaac
and Rebecca No. 1, of the City of Annapolis," and
by that name they and their successors shall and
may be capable in law to have, hold, purchase, re-
ceive and retain property, real and personal, and
the same at their pleasure to sell, mortgage, lease,
transfer or dispose of in such manner as they think
proper ; provided always that said corporation or
body politic shall not at any time hold or possess
property real, personal or mixed exceeding in
value the sum of fifteen thousand dollars.

Incorporation

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corpora-
tion or body politic and their successors by the name
and title aforesaid, may sue and be sued in any
and all courts of justice, whether at law or in
equity, or before any and all Judge or Judges,
