to incorporate the Western Run Turnpike Company, passed
in 1867, chapter 396, with proposed amendment.
Amendment proposed :

Section 4, line 4, after the word "county," insert the
words, subject to the provisions of Article 3, section 54 of
the Constitution of Maryland.

Which was adopted,

And the bill as amended, was read a second time and or-
dered to be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Sudlei, Chairman of a Select Committee, reported
favorably the Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal sections
37, 38, 39, 46, 47, 48 and 54, of Article 17, of the Code of
Public Local Laws, relating to the town of Centreville,
Queen Anne's county, and to re-enact the following as sub-
stitutes therefor.

Which was read a second time and ordered to be engross-
ed for a third reading.

Mr. McElroy, Chairman of a Select Committee, submitted
the following

REPORT:

The Special Committee appointed by this House to notify
the Hon. Wm. T. Hamilton, officially of his election as
United States Senator, respectfully report that they have
performed their duty and they ask that the following corres-
pondence relating to the subject be entered upon the Journal
of Proceedings of this House :

Annapolis, January 29, 1808.
Hon. WM. T. HAMILTON,

Dear Sir:—It becomes our pleasant duty as members of
the Joint Special Committee of the Senate and House of Dele-
gates of Maryland, to communicate to you officially, your
election to the high honor of representing your State in the
Senate of the United States, for six years from the 4th day
of March, 1869.

Believing, sir, that Maryland has honored a worthy son,
when through her Legislature she has called upon you to rep-
resent her interests in part in the Councils of the nation, and
predicting for you there a brilliant career.

We subscribe ourselves, very respectfully,

Your obedient servants, &c.
