CHAPTER 66.

 

AN ACT to incorporate a Company to construct
a turnpike or gravel road, from Cereafoss Cross
Roads through or near Fairview to the Penn-
sylvania line in Washington County.

 

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That John Fiery, John Snively,
Henry Troup, Jacob Strite, John Strite, Samuel
Strite, Jerome Ditto, G. M. Ditto, David Seward,
Melker Snively, George Kline, George Becken-
baugh, George Crorner, H. B. Craig, Jesse Craig,
Jacob Reid, John S. Brewer, Daniel Cereafoss,
Henry Zellers, George Hix and Dr. Win. Pittenger,
and all other persons who may have or shall here-
after subscribe to the stock of said Company be
and they are hereby incorporated a body politic for
making a turnpike or gravel road, to commence
at Cereafoss Cross Roads and extending through or
near the village of Fair-view to the Pennsylvania
line.

Incorporation

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the capital stock
of said Company shall not exceed twenty thousand
dollars, to be divided into shares of twenty-five
dollars each, and as soon as the sum of five thou-
sand dollars shall have been subscribed a majority
of the subscribers shall give two weeks notice in
one or more newspapers published in Hagers-
town, of the time and place designated by them
for the shareholders to meet for the purpose of
organizing said corporation, who shall then and
there choose by a plurality of votes, and by ballot
a President and five Managers, any three of whom
shall form a quorum, and in the same manner to
elect a Treasurer, and such other officers as they
shall deem necessary for conducting the affairs of
said Company, until the first Saturday of November
thereafter and until a new election shall be held,
which, said election shall take place annually on the
first Saturday of November, and the said President

and Managers shall make such rules and regulations
and By-Laws for the government of said Company,
not inconsistent with the laws of the State, and
each stockholder in any election of officers shall
