Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :
We have received your message proposing to open the re-
turns of the election for Governor of Maryland, in the Hall
of the House of Delegates, to-day, at two o'clock, in the pre-
sence of both Houses, in conformity with the requirements of
the Constitution of the State, and concur therein.

Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :
We propose, with your concurrence, the appointment of
the joint standing committee of the Senate and House of Del-
egates, as is required to be appointed by the 24th Section of
the third Article of the Constitution, who shall have power
to send for persons and examine them on oath, and call for
all public or official papers and records, and whose duty it
shall be to examine and report upon all contracts made for
printing, stationery, and purchases for the public offices and
the Library, and all expenditures therein, and upon all mat-
ters of alleged abuse in expenditures to which their atten-
tion may be called by resolution of either House of the Gen-
eral Assembly. We have appointed on the part of the Sen-
ate Messrs. Snyder, Clarke, Parker, of Calvert, Fields, Hy-
land.
