Mr. Kimmel offered the following amendment : Page 35, section 3, add to the end of section 3, as amended, the following: And the salary of the said Principal of the Normal School shall be twenty-five hundred dollars per annum, payable quarterly by the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the said Normal School. And the State Superintendent now acting under the system of Public Instruction, about to expire by limitation of the Constitution, shall transfer all school property and effects in his hands to the said Principal of the Normal School. Which was adopted. Mr. Compton offered the following amendment: Page 50, strike out section 10. And be it enacted, That this Law shall take effect on the first day of April in the year 1868; provided, nevertheless, that the schools now in operation may be continued under existing authorities, until their successors shall be duly- appointed and qualified. Which was adopted. On motion by Mr. Clarke, The vote by which section 3, of chapter 2, was adopted, Was reconsidered, By yeas and nays aa follows: AFFIRMATIVE. Messrs. President, Grove, Browne, Hyland, Biggs, Lee, Brewer, Malone, Clarke, Parker, of Calvert, Earle, Smith—13. Fields, NEGATIVE. Messrs. Carroll, Miller, Henkle, Spates, Hammond, Walsh, Kimmel, Welch—9. Maddox, Mr. Maddox then offered the following amendment to said section: Page 3, chapter 2, section 3, strike out after district in 3d line, to the end of the section, and insert, to be appointed |
