EVENING SESSION.

March 24, 8 o'clock P. M.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Present at roll call:

Messrs. President, Browne, Biggs, Brewer, Clarke, Car-
roll, Denson, Earle, Fields, Hyland, Hammond, Kimmel,
Lee, Maddox, Miller, Snyder, Walsh, Welch—17.

Mr. Lee, from the Committee on the Militia, reported
favorably

House bill entitled an Act to authorize the Adjutant Gen-
eral to purchase arms for the use of Charlotte Hall School.

Which was read the second time.
Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, reported

House bill entitled an Act to appropriate a sum of money
to the Baltimore Manuel Labor School.

Also, reported unfavorably

An Act authorizing the procurement of a portrait of his
Excellency Thomas Swann, Governor of Maryland, and ap-
propriating a sum of money therefor.

Which report was adopted.

The Clerk of the House of Delegates' delivered House bill
entitled an Act to repeal, amend, and .re-enact section 4,
chapter 152, of an Act passed March 21st, 1867, entitled an
Act to appropriate one hundred thousand dollars for the re-
lief of the destitute people in the States wasted by civil war.

Which was read the first time, and referred to the Com-
mittee on Finance.
Also, returned

Senate bill entitled an Act to amend an Act passed Janu-
ary session, 1865, chapter 33, entitled an Act to provide
bounty for soldiers entering the service of the United States,
to fill the quotas of Maryland, under the call of the Presi-
dent of the United States of the 19th December, 1864, and
under future calls, by amending and re-enacting sections 4,
5, and 6, which were repealed or intended to be repealed by
the Act of 1867, chapter 156.

Endorsed, "Passed by yeas and nays with proposed.
amendments," viz.:

Section 9, line 3, strike out the words January, 1869, and
substitute September, 1868.
