Mr. Smith presented the petition of sundry citizens of Dor-
chester county, in reference to building a bridge over Fish-
ing Creek, of said county.

Which was referred to Senators from Dorchester, Caroline
and Somerset.

On motion by Mr. Snyder,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill entitled "an Act to authorize the Directors of the
Maryland Penitentiary to construct dormitory buildings for
the accommodation of the convicts in said prison, and making
an appropriation therefor."

On motion by Mr. Henkle,

Leave was granted to Senators Henkle, Clarke and
Brewer, to introduces bill to amend the Act of 1867, chap-
ter 385, in regard to the payment of pensions to the soldiers
and widows of deceased soldiers of the war of 1812.

Mr. Denson presented the petition of Daniel Keath and
250 others, relating to public schools.

Which was referred to the Committee on Education.

On motion by Mr. Earle,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to report
a bill to authorize the Comptroller of the Treasury to adjust
and settle the claims of the State's Attorneys in the several
counties and city of Baltimore, for certain fees due by the
State.

Mr. Smith, from a select committee, reported Senate bill
entitled an Act to exempt from State and City taxation, the-
real and personal property of the General German Protestant
Orphans' Association of the City of Baltimore.

Which was read the first time.
Mr. Fields, from a select committee, reported favorably

A bill entitled an Act to release Thomas Farrell and Esma
Lowe from liabilities to the State incurred by securityships
and the bond of Alexander Knotts, of Caroline county.

Which was read a first time.
