WEDNESDAY, February 26,1868.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Father Burke.
Present at roll call :

Messrs. Browne, Clarke, Carroll, Denson, Earle, Fields,
Henkle, Hyland, Kimmel, Maddox, Miller, Parker, of Cal-
vert, Spates, Snyder, Smith, Welch—16.

Mr. Hyland presented the petition of W. T. Smith, Jas.
M. Wilson and other citizens of District No. 2, Somerset
county, praying a change in the place of holding the polls of
said district.

Which was referred to the Senators from Somerset, Wicom-
ico and Dorchester.

Mr. Kimmel presented the petition of the Board of Pilots.
And

Mr. Smith presented the petition of sundry merchants in
Baltimore, against the repeal of the present Pilot Law.

Which were referred to Senators from Baltimore city.
On motion by Mr. Denson,

House bill appropriating the sums of money therein men-
tioned, to pay the claims of Plummer & Usilton, Wm. H.
Councell, E. E. Ewing, E. F. Perkins, Dr. Montgomery
Johns, Samuel L. Geisinger, John T. Watkins, Samuel
Smith, and Geo. W. Murdock.

Was considered.

On motion by Mr. Earle,
The bill was recommitted to the Committee on Finance.

The President pro tem. presented the following communi-
cation :

ANNAPOLIS, Feb. 26th, 1868.
To the Honorable,
The President of the Senate :

SIR—The resolution of the Senate of the United States, de-
claring a vacancy to exist in the seat in that body to which.
I was elected by the Legislature of Maryland at its last ses-
sion, with the reasons therefor, having been communicated
to the two Houses of the General Assembly by his Excellency
the Governor, I herewith transmit the report of the Judiciary
