THURSDAY, February 6, 1868.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Eev. Mr. Miller.
Present at roll call :

Messrs. President, Browne, Brewer, Carroll, Fields,
Hyland, Malone, Parker, of Calvert, Spates, Snyder, Walsh,
Welch—12.

Not a quorum present.

The Sergeant-at-arms was sent to notify the absent Sena-
tors.

Two Senators taking their seats, the President reported a
quorum present.

The President presented the following response of the
Adjutant General of the State, to an order of the Senate.

ANNAPOLIS, February 4, 1868.
Hon. Barnes Compton,

President of the Senate of Maryland :

SIR : In answer to an order passed by your Honorable
Body, requesting information from this office of "the number
of men furnished the Federal Government for military ser-
vice by the State of Maryland to fill her quotas for the years
1861, 1862, and 1863, up to the 18th day of October of said
last year," I have the honor to report, that for calls for troops,
made by the Federal Government in the years 1861, 1862
and 1863, the State of Maryland has credits thus :

1861 By men furnished 8,854.

1862 " " 3,586.

1863 " " 1,354.

Total, " 13,794.
Very Respectfully, your obedient servant

JOHN S. BERRY,

Adjutant General.

Mr. Snyder presented a resolution in regard to establishing
a publishing house, for the benefit of the public schools, by
the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion.
