TUESDAY, February 4, 1868.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Hammond.
Present at roll call:

Messrs. President, Browne, Brewer, Clarke, Carroll,
Fields, Hyland, Malone, Parker, of Calvert, Spates, Snyder,
Smith, Walsh, Welch—14.

On motion by Mr. Clarke,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill to incorporate the Monrovia, New Market and
Liberty Turnpike Company, of Frederick county.

On motion by Mr. Walsh, it was

Ordered, That the Committee on Internal Improvements,
be and it is hereby requested to inquire whether the Boards
of County Commissioners of the respective counties in the
State, are empowered by existing laws to levy taxes suffi-
cient to keep the public roads in the several counties in
proper condition and repair ; and also to direct the manner,
and at what seasons, and by whom the proceeds of such taxes
are to be applied, and if such power does not now exist,
what additional legislation is expedient and necessary to con-
fer upon the Boards of County Commissioners of the differ-
ent counties of the State, full power to act in the premises,
and that said committee be requested to report at as early
a day as possible.

On motion by Mr. Welch,

Leave was granted to the committee on Corporations to
report a bill entitled an Act to incorporate Chester Lodge,
No. 115, of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons.

Mr. Brewer submitted the following order :

Ordered, That when the Senate adjourn to-day, it stands
adjourned 'till to-morrow, at 11 o'clock, A. M.
Which, was read and rejected.

Mr. Brewer presented the petition of citizens of Mont-
gomery county in regard to protecting sheep from dogs.

Which was referred to the Committee on Agriculture.

Mr. Clarke presented the petition of Francis Kinney and
twelve other public school teachers, in Baltimore county,
Which was referred to the Committee on Education.
