142 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 1.,

SATURDAY, February 1, 1868.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Hammond.
Present at roll call:

Messrs. President, Brovvne, Brewer, Clarkc, Fields, Hy-
land, Hammond, Kimmel, Miller, Spates, Snyder, Smith,
Walsh, Welch—14.

The President presented the petition of the Parochial Free
Schools under the control of the Catholic Church in the city
of Baltimore, from the Archbishop of Baltimore.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion.

On motion by Mr. Smith,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Internal Improve-
ments to introduce a bill to incorporate the Cambridge Har-
bor Internal Navigation Company.

On motion by Mr. Smith,

Leave was granted to the Senators from Dorchester, Som-
erset and Talbot to introduce a bill to incorporate the Meth-
odist Episcopal Church South, on Taylor's Island, Dorches-
ter county.

On motion by Mr. Clarke,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill to regulate and provide for the collecting of taxes
in Baltimore county.

On motion by Mr. Walsh, it was

Ordered, That the President be requested to appoint some
suitable person, to assist the Janitor in cleaning up and keep-
ing the Senate Chamber and Committee Rooms in proper
condition, the pay of such officer not to exceed two dollars
per day.

Mr. Spates, from the Committee on Corporations, reported
Senate bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Hooversville
and Baltimore Turnpike Company.

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Spates, from the Committee on Corporations, reported
Senate bill entitled an Act to incorporate the North Branch
Lumber and Boom Company.
