FRIDAY, January 17, 1868.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Prayer by the Eev. Mr. Miller.

Present at roll call:

Messrs. President, Browne, Biggs, Brewer, Clarke, Car-
roll, Earle, Fields, Grove, Henkle, Hyland, Hammond, Kim-
mel, Lee, Maddox, Miller, Malone, Parker, of Calvert,
Spates, Snyder, Smith, Walsh, Welch—23.

Mr. Malone presented the petition of Jonathan J. Fooks
and others, of Wicomico county, relating to Puhlic Schools,

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Edu-
cation.

Mr. Parker, of Worcester, presented the petition of J. T.
Parker and others, of Worcester county, relating to the sale
ot spirituous liquors.

Which was read and referred to the Senators from Wor-
cester, Dorchester and Somerset.

Mr. Hyland from the select committee reported favorably
the bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Fairmount Acad-
emy, in district No. 11, Somerset county.

Which was read the first time.

The committee to whom the bill entitled an Act to repeal
chapter 153, passed January session, 1867, entitled an Act
to add an additional section to Article 30 of the Code of Pub-
lic General Laws, relating to crimes and punishments, and
to re-enact the same with amendments, was re-committed,
reported hack favorably, and it

Was read a second time and ordered to he engrossed for a
third reading.

The joint resolution relating to the removal of the office of
the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Company's office,

Was read a third time and passed by yeas and nays as fol-
lows :
