Mr. Legg submitted the following substitute :

Ordered, That it shall be the duty of the Lamp Lighter to
assist the Hall-Keeper in the discharge of his duties.

Which was adopted.

The question then recurring upon the order, as amended,

It was rejected.

Mr. Iglehart submitted the following order :

Ordered, That a committee of five be appointed to report
a bill to regulate the pay of officers and others connected
with the House of Delegates of Maryland ; and it shall also
he the duty of this committee to make diligent inquiry and
examination as to the number of officers that may probably
be necessary for the proper execution of the business of this
House during the present and subsequent sessions, and also
to report whether any and what additional officers, if any,
may be necessary during the present session, and to provide
their mode of appointment.

Which was read.

Mr. Pentland submitted the following order as a sub-
stitute :

Ordered. That the Keeper of the Hall be allowed an as-
sistant, at a per diem of two dollars.

Which was adopted.

The order as amended was then adopted.

The Speaker appointed Joseph R. Phelps, Assistant Hall-
Keeper, under the order.

Mr. Syester submitted the following order :

Ordered, That the Comptroller of the Treasury be, and he
is hereby requested to furnish to this House, the several sums
of money from time to time, since the establishment of the
office of Comptroller, paid out of the public Treasury, to and
for the use of St. John's College.

Which was adopted.

Also, the following,

Ordered, That Ambrose Ingman, Esq., one of the Door-
Keepers of this House, have leave of absence until Wednesday
next.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Blake submitted the following order :

Ordered, That when the House adjourns this day, it be
until Tuesday next, 12 o'clock noon, and that the Hall-
Keeper be required to air the Hall.

Mr. Nicolai submitted the following amendment:

Strike out " Monday," and insert Tuesday.
