VI TO THE READER.

ranged in consecutive order, and thus removing the general objection
that the Constitution is so scattered that it is impracticable to learn
what it is.

To those gentlemen of the Baltimore Bar, to whom I am under obli-
gations for the loan of their books, I tender my thanks.

To Mr. William Gwynn and Mr. Ridgate, who kindly advised Mr.
Toy during my unavoidable absence, I owe much.

The assumption of the duty of revision of the entire work, by Mr.
Magruder and Mr. Scott, without fee or reward, is another exhibition
of their active benevolence, and of their devotion to the public good ;
for without such unrewarded sacrifice of time, this work would never
have appeared before the public.

Mr. Toy has, with his accustomed proficiency, given to this work a
superior type and paper, and has toiled to make it accurate.

To know that it meets your approbation, will be some reward for
the patient investigation and unremitting attention which it has received
from the hands of

Your obedient servant,

CLEMENT DORSEY.

JULY 24, 1840.
