REPORT

OF THE

EEV1SORS APPOINTED BY HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR GRASON.

ANNAPOLIS, February 10, 1840.
To His Excellency,

WILLIAM GRASON, Governor;

Sir,—We have, in the performance of the duty assigned to us, by
your Excellency, under a resolution of the Legislature, carefully re-
vised and examined the compilation of the Laws of this State made
by the Honourable Clement Dorsey, and highly 'approve of the work.'

We would also add, that this compilation of our Acts of Assembly,
from its condensed form and the convenience of reference, furnished by
the valuable notes of the compiler, is the most useful and convenient
book of statute law hitherto presented to the people of Maryland. At
this time such a book is particularly useful to students of law, and all
others who desire a knowledge of our statutes.

Before this compilation, our A'cts of Assembly were only to be found
in the compilations of Kilty, Harris, Kilty and Watkins, and the annual
volume, which has been printed since 1818, forming a mass of about
twenty volumes. To trace the legislation, on any subject, through this
pile of volumes, was not only a work of appalling labour, but the scar-
city and cost of the books, rendered it almost impracticable to obtain
them. Now, at comparatively trifling cost, any one can have the State
Laws, so reduced in magnitude, as with the aid of the notes to render
an examination of any subject easy and convenient.

Very respectfully, your obedient servants,

ALEX. C. MAGRUDER,
OTHO SCOTT.
