receive at the same rate per side, as is allowed to clerks of the
county courts, for copies of deeds or other papers granted by
law to be recorded.

 

CHAPTER 93.
AN ACT to continue in force the Acts of Assembly which would expire
with the present session.

Continued
in force.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
all such acts, or parts of acts as would expire with the
present session of assembly, be and the same are hereby con-
tinued to the last Monday of December next, and to the end of
the then session of assembly.

 

CHAPTER 136.

* Ch.88

AN ACT Supplementary to an Act, passed at December session, eighteen
hundred and twenty-six,* entitled, an Act to prevent Gaming.

Fine and
imprison-
ment.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
every person guilty of any of the offences enumerated in the
act to which this is a supplement, shall hereafter on conviction
for the first offence, forfeit and pay a sum not exceeding one
thousand dollars, nor less than fifty dollars, and be imprisoned
for thirty days ; for the second offence shall forfeit and pay a
sum not exceeding one thousand dollars, and not less than two
hundred dollars, and be imprisoned for a term not less than six
months nor more than two years.

 

CHAPTER 151.

AN ACT to provide for the Counting of Staves and Heading in this State.

Count
regulated.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the count of all staves and heading, throughout this state,
shall be according to the short hundred, so that one thousand

(*staves)

pieces shall be computed as one thousand staves, or heading, as
the case may be; and any inspector or dealer in states,* or
heading, attempting to count, or compute, at the rate of twelve
hundred to the thousand, or at any greater rate than one thou-
sand pieces to the thousand, and in that proportion for a greater
or less number, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and
be held subject to indictment, and upon conviction in any court
of competent jurisdiction, shall be adjudged to pay such fine,
not exceeding one hundred dollars, as said court shall deem
meet.

Application

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That one-half of the fines and
forfeitures under this act, shall be for the use of the informer,
and the other half for the use of the state.
